Candyvore Creative, a publishing company and more, encourages children to safely explore the social and emotional world around and within themselves through art, poetry, literature, and other creative forms.
UPDATE: As a result of the generosity of our community, we have now donated 100 books to children entering the foster care system or staying in shelters as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Special thanks to Geoff Stasio, Jamie Prince, Holly McCormick, Layne Darby St. Julien, Linda Hargis, and Michael Singletary for their contribution of books for these children.

This week's topic:
WHY POETRY MATTERS
From the archives: Who am I? (excerpt from 7/19 post)
Inspired through my work over the years with children facing deep trauma, chronic and terminal illness, and even the dreaded puberty, Candyvore Creative, Inc is my expression of the love, strength, and hope in every child I’ve met.
This platform offers a chance to share what I’ve learned from thirty years of working with children from many different life experiences.
I won’t pretend to tell you that I have it all figured out. I won’t pretend to tell you that any given book, or game, or video or message in any format will solve a child’s problems. I will tell you that there is significant value in sparking conversations around issues a child finds important.
My desire for the books and other work of Candyvore Creative is to provide parents, educators, counselors, and others with tools and a common experience, a common language, a common story that will help them help children. Along the way, if a story, a single line in a poem, or even one illustration entertains a child and makes them laugh, or giggle, or wiggle uncontrollably, all the better. I will have done my job.
